Disclaimer

In this article Mini Rottweilers: Everything You Could Want to Know, we don’t give a quick overview of Mini Rottweilers, instead, we go through a step by step guide and cover everything you would want to know about Mini Rottweilers so you could have the complete image.

History of Mini Rottweilers

Actually, in the previous article Mini Dalmatians: Everything You Could Want to know, We covered in-depth how can someone make a breed smaller, but Mini Rottweilers have a different history than Mini Dalmatians. If you remember, we said that the first option to make breeds smaller are crossing them with smaller breeds, the second one is dwarfism and the third one is mating the runts of the litter!

In fact, you could have Mini Rottweiler by one of these ways too.

Mini Rottweilers aren’t purebred registered AKC dogs, they don’t have pedigree available and because they are naturally large muscular dogs, having a Mini Rottweiler with dwarfism genes is very likely to have serious health problems, that’s why breeders prefer to have Mini Rottweiler Mixes to make sure they are healthy, some of them are:

The Reagle

It is a mixed breed happened between Beagle and Rottweiler, that’s why it’s called The Reagle! and Reagles often inherit Rottweiler colors but they don’t inherit everything as they aren’t known to be guard dogs, unlike Rottweilers.

However, The Reagle isn’t considered a toy dog but it’s considered a medium-sized dog that ranges between 15 and 27 inches tall and weighs from 50 to 85 pounds, you can read more about it here.

The Rottweiler Chihuahua

Obviously, Chihuahuas are known to be toy dogs. So the resulted mix breed will be a small to medium-sized dog with the black Rotty color.

The Rottle

The Rottle is a Rottweiler mixed with Miniature Poodle, which will result in a small to medium-sized dog too!

Obviously, there are other mixed breeds like Rottweiler and Labrador, that we may cover in other articles because we are here for purebred Mini Rottweilers, aren’t we?

Physical Properties of Mini Rottweilers

Mini Rottweilers are weird dogs, there aren’t many toy dogs who are muscular.

Depending on the breed, whether it is a pure mini Rottweiler or a mixed breed, you will see muscles on his body especially if you have purebred Mini Rottweiler.

Even to our surprise, Mini Rottweilers are considered the smallest guard dogs which is unusual too.

As people buy Mini dogs because they are cute, so how could you buy a guard toy dog.

The physical specs of the Mini Rottweilers:

  • Color: If it is pure, then it will be the same as larger Rottweiler. However, it may vary depending on the type of mixed breed.
  • Size: Size isn’t really accurate as it depends on the breeder, however, a general rule it will be between 18-35 pounds if it’s pure breed and less or more if it’s mixed-breed (Rottweiler Chihuahua Mix doesn’t exceed 10 pounds)
  • Height: Same as size, it is variable. However, if is pure it will be between 15-20 inches.

Remember, buying a Mini Rottweiler is very similar to gambling. Every time, you buy your Mini Rottweiler you will never have an image of how it will be in a few days’ time. Especially, if it was a mixed breed, then you have no chance in expecting how your Mini Rottweiler will be.

Mini Rottweilers’ Health Related Issues

Rottweilers are large muscular dogs therefore, breeding them down to small or tiny dogs will have a huge effect on their health.

More than 90% of purebred Mini Rottweilers have bone-related issues which is unusual for small dogs. And that’s because Rottweilers are muscular, so having a small body with these muscles isn’t something great at all.

Many of them have stomach issues when they aren’t on the right diet which will cover later.

Most of them also have very week immunity system due to breading large Rottweilers into tiny ones.

Most of the Rottweilers get infected with Pravo at their younger age and unfortunately, most of them don’t overcome it due to their week immunity system.

That’s why we recommend buying Mixed Mini Rottweilers instead of purebred ones, as mixed ones will have fewer issues.

After buying your Mini Dog

As we said in our latest post which was about Mini Dalmatians. After buying your mini Dog, you have to go to the vet immediately to check the health of your dog to give him the necessary supplements.

As a matter of fact, you have to give any mini dogs supplements, because they will be weak and have poor health. So, you have to go to the vet and check what supplements they need.

Some precautions:

  • Don’t exercise your dog before reaching 3 and half months:
Mini Rottweilers have many bone-related issues and therefore it is advisable not to exercise or walk your dog before 3 and half of months.
  • Don’t let him interact with larger dogs before 3 and half months:
As they have week immunity system, it is advisable too not to let him interact with larger dogs before making sure he is well.
  • Don’t give your dogs any bones before six months.

Mini Rottweiler Temperament

Fortunately, those dogs inherited the same traits of their larger ones(purebred). Some of these traits are:

  • Guarding dog: One of the first things that come to mind when we speak about Rottweilers is guarding of course:
In fact, The Mini ones have this ability too, they are called the smallest guard dogs!
  • Aggression: Mini Rottweilers are aggressive like their ancestors, they have very strong bites.
Their strong teeth make them very remarkable strong dogs which make them reliable mini guarding dogs.
  • Needy behaviors: Rottweilers are the most popular dogs to have separation anxiety and their grandchildren inherited it too.
  • Highly energetic dogs: Rottweilers in fact are known to be energetic and never rest.
Mini Rottweilers -which is very contradicting to tiny dogs- need lots of exercise after six months.
If you are short on time and can’t play with your mini dog, then this breed isn’t suitable for you.
  • Attention-Seekers: They are for sure the most attention-seekers of all times.
You forgot to give your dog some love today, then be ready to have some chewing behaviors.
  • Dual-personality: They are very smart dogs but yet they are hard to be trained.
They are not suitable for new owners because they need special treatment as they can be transferred to killers easily.
  • Very loyal dogs: They are considered one of the most loyal dogs of all times.
They can give up their own lives for yours. But, they require special treatment and special kind of love.

Mini Rottweilers’ Training

Rottweilers are known for their high needs for training, they are known for their smartness and willingness to get trained well.

However, training your Rottweiler incorrectly will lead to undesired behaviors as well as aggression in extreme cases.

Generally, Mini Dogs have the same needs for training. That makes Mini Rottweilers very hard for new owners. They need expert trainers to deal with them. So please, read well before buying this breed.

Mini Rottweilers’ Diet

As muscular dogs, they are in constant needs of protein. Generally, Mini Rottweilers need from 22-28% protein in their meals.

Generally, it’s best to make sure your mini dog never overweights. Because, if Mini Rottweiler overweigh, they will likely have to perform surgery as overweight for them is very dangerous.

It is also very important to exercise your dogs well physically and behaviorally. Leaving your mini dog without training will create bone issues, they need to run and walk at least 30-45 minutes daily.

Mini Rottweilers and shedding

If you bought a purebred Mini Rottweiler, then shedding won’t be a problem. Because they have short hair and they won’t shed a lot.

If you bought a mixed breed, then it might be a problem depending on the type of breed. For example, Rottle have a problem in shedding as they have long hair.

As I said before, buying Mini Rottweiler is like gambling, you can’t expect the image of your dog in six months’ times.

Mini Rottweilers’ breeders

There are many breeders, however, a few of them only are reliable. Because as we mentioned earlier, having a mini Rottweiler from a bad breeder will have many health issues.
Currently, there are two well-known breeders which are:

Countryside Puppies

If you look at their online website, you will find them saying:

The miniature Rottweilers that I breed are not meant to disrespect the registered Rottweiler nor are they to line my pockets with gold. They are meant for people that live in small houses or apartments or for older people that after having Rottweilers all their life don’t have the energy to train and take care of a big dog.

Countryside puppies.

They are reliable and responsible breeders, their dogs are very healthy. You can buy from them and never worry about their health a lot.

Greenfield puppies.

Greenfield puppies are also reputable breeders, they will provide you the best and healthiest puppies.

They have an extremely beautiful website where you can go, choose your budget, the age you want, and you will have the best fit. For more information, visit their website here.

Conclusion

Buying a Mini Rottweiler is always a tricky thing, It requires a lot of knowledge too.
